The full-time Controller position is situated in the Houston, Texas area. Planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff will be essential for this role. To succeed in this role, you will need to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Complete tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

  • Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations

  • Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability in strong analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued

  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of bank relations

  • Solid understanding of Process Improvement Projects

  • Ad Hoc Reporting experience

  • Forecasting experience highly preferred

  • General familiarity with budget forecasting

  • Strong familiarity with GAAP Accounting

  • Expertise in construction project accounting

  • Practical knowledge of cash forecasting

  • Experience with Annual Financial Reporting

  • Adeptness in financial reporting

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards
