Description Robert Half is looking for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected services company. The leadership position is responsible for an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Houston, Texas region.

Major responsibilities

  • Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month

  • Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

  • Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

  • Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective Requirements - Accomplished in analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Financial statement preparation experience preferred

  • Comprehensive knowledge of month end closings

  • Strong familiarity with technical accounting

  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

  • Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Strong communication and social skills

  • Be detailed, flexible, and organized

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
