Working as a Senior Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for account analysis and reconciliations, financial statement preparation and consolidation, cash flow analysis, budgets and forecasting, audit preparation, and internal control maintenance and regulatory reporting. This Senior Cost Accountant opening is located in the Houston, Texas area and will offer you great experience, strong compensation, and an attractive benefits package. What you get to do every single day
Collecting and analyzing data about a company’s operational costs
Setting standard costs of manufactured goods
Developing and analyzing cost standards
Carrying out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, including for small businesses
Establishing costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, etc.
Performing account reconciliations
Preparing audit reports and presenting their findings to management
Heavy Excel analysis and reporting
WIP and inventory analysis
Recommending changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit
Advising executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data
Managing the company’s balance sheet and accounting books
Supporting other company accountants with invoicing and capital expenditure
Proven work experience as a Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, Accountant or similar role
Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with accounting software
Computer literacy, MS Excel in particular (familiarity with VLOOKUPs, formulas, macros, and pivot tables)
Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
Strong time management skills
Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information
Degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant study
Understanding of corporate performance management (CPM) and business intelligence systems required
Minimum 5-7 years of overall general accounting experience
Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills
Expertise in reconciliations
Journal entries experience
Solid understanding of account analysis
General ledger experience
Skilled with ERP systems
Top notch analytical, quantitative and social skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must
Competence with financial data analysis and report generation that is prompt and accurate
Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines
Must be proficient and able to complete various financial reporting tasks
