Robert Half Criminal Defense Legal Assistant in Houston, Texas
Description
We are offering an opportunity for a Criminal Defense Legal Assistant to join our team based in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will be actively involved in researching legal precedents, managing client files, drafting legal documents, and supporting our attorneys in courtroom proceedings. This role is primarily focused on the criminal defense sector and requires a high level of organization and detail-oriented skills.
Responsibilities:
• Undertake comprehensive legal research and collect information related to cases
• Assist attorneys in preparing for court proceedings and trials
• Maintain and organize law libraries, documents, and case files efficiently
• Coordinate appointments and handle all necessary correspondence and logistics
• Provide timely reminders to facilitate meeting of deadlines
• Draft and prepare legal documents for attorneys
• Communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, counsel, clerical staff, and court officials
• Manage client billing (Timeslips is a plus)
• Support attorneys during courtroom proceedings
• Utilize Adobe Acrobat, Case Management Software, and Microsoft Office Suite to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Requirements
-3-5 years' experience in criminal must have
-Experience working with word, excel, and outlook (calendar management)
-Able to take initiative and work independently
-Comfortable with answering phone calls and speaking to clients
-Willing to work in a fast-paced environment while still maintaining accuracy and efficiency
