Job Description: Director of Investment Accounting

Position Overview:

As the Director of Investment Accounting for our financial services company, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all aspects of investment accounting and financial reporting related to the company's investment portfolio. Your expertise and leadership will be crucial in ensuring accurate and timely accounting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective communication with stakeholders. You will lead a team of skilled professionals and collaborate with various departments to support the company's financial goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investment Accounting Oversight:

  • Manage and supervise the investment accounting team responsible for recording, reconciling, and reporting investment transactions and activities.

  • Ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and other relevant accounting standards.

  • Monitor and analyze investment performance, valuations, and fair value measurements.

  • Review and approve complex investment accounting entries and ensure accuracy.

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and review investment-related financial statements, reports, and disclosures for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, regulatory bodies, and auditors.

  • Provide in-depth analysis of investment results and variances to budgets and benchmarks.

  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate investment-related information into overall financial reporting.

  • Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards related to investments and financial reporting.

  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard investment assets and prevent errors and discrepancies.

  • Participate in audits and regulatory examinations, providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Team Leadership and Development:

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture, providing guidance and mentorship to team members.

  • Set performance goals, conduct regular evaluations, and identify opportunities for skill development and training.

  • Enhance the team's capabilities by recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top talent.

  • Process Improvement and Automation:

  • Continuously evaluate and streamline investment accounting processes, leveraging technology and automation where possible to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Identify opportunities for system enhancements or upgrades to improve reporting capabilities.

  • Relationship Management:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including portfolio managers, investment analysts, and other finance teams, to ensure accurate and timely investment data flows.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external partners, such as custodians, auditors, and regulators.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) preferred.

  • Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in investment accounting and financial reporting within the financial services industry.

  • Proven track record of managing a team and driving results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of investment accounting principles, financial instruments, and relevant regulatory requirements.

  • Strong understanding of accounting software, financial reporting tools, and data analytics.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Effective communication and presentation abilities, capable of conveying complex financial information to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, integrity, and ethical conduct.
