Description
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our thriving Midstream Company in Houston. In this role, you will play a vital part in managing corporate accounting functions while also taking the lead in training and mentoring junior staff accountants. Responsibilities:
Corporate Accounting:
Manage and oversee the corporate accounting activities of the company, including general ledger entries, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
Training and Mentorship:
Provide hands-on training and mentorship to junior staff accountants, guiding them in the understanding of corporate accounting procedures and best practices.
Review their work for accuracy and compliance with established standards.
Month-End Close:
Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion of financial statements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and resolve discrepancies.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and review financial statements, schedules, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements and related disclosures.
Intercompany Transactions:
Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations.
Coordinate with different business units to ensure proper accounting treatment.
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in corporate accounting processes.
Implement improvements to streamline workflows and enhance controls.
Compliance and Audit:
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
Assist in audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Financial Analysis:
Analyze financial data and variances to support decision-making and strategic planning.
Provide insights to management on financial performance.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA certification is a plus).
4+ years of progressive experience in corporate accounting, preferably within the midstream energy industry.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and lead a team of junior accountants.
Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
Deadline-driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong organizational skills and a commitment to process improvement.
