Robert Half Litigation Paralegal in Houston, Texas

Description

The overall objective of a Paralegal is to provide services in all phases of the legal system under the supervision of an attorney. Paralegals are assigned cases whereas Legal Assistants are assigned attorneys. A successful Paralegal will be highly organized, responsive with positive attitude, works well independently, is detail oriented, can multi-task, has excellent communication and research skills, interfaces well with workgroups, clients, and is proficient with technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides litigation support for trial preparation, mediation, and depositions including preparing witnesses for trial.

• Drafts correspondence, pleadings and efilings

• Monitor and comply with Discovery deadlines

• Monitor deadlines per scheduling order and various state and federal courts’ policies

• Performs document review, document production, and manages communication with stakeholders

• Assist with new client files and client files for mediations, hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and mediations

• Collaborates and coordinates with experts and witnesses.

• Performs legal research, extensive trial prep, trial attendance

• Assists in all phases of litigation including discovery, document production, deposition prep, hearing prep etc.

• Manages, organizes, and maintains documents (both in paper and electronic systems) according to firm’s retention policy.

• Provides supervision and training of legal assistants, paralegals and law clerks

• Adheres to HML office policies and procedures.

• Responsible for 1,440 billable hours annually or 120 hours monthly.

Requirements

• Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in insurance, energy, and maritime defense litigation paralegal work.

• Accredited college degree.

• Verifiable references.

• Ability to work independently, manage large workloads with deadlines.

• Detail-oriented, highly organized, with exceptional prioritization skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

• Prior litigation experience in a law firm or corporate legal department preferred.

• Knowledge of iManage (or similar document filing/management system) is a plus.

• Eager and willing to invest in personal development.

• Problem-solver with critical thinking aptitude.

• Enjoys collaborating and interfacing with clients, attorneys, and work groups.

• Cooperative, flexible and exhibits leadership qualities.

• Mentors legal support staff.
