Robert Half Payroll Administrator in Houston, Texas

Description We are looking for a meticulous Payroll Administrator to join our team in Houston, Texas. This role revolves around the processing of semi-monthly payroll and off-cycles for salaried, hourly, and commissioned employees across multiple states. This position offers a short term contract employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:

• Process semi-monthly payroll and off-cycles for various types of employees across multiple states

• Prepare and maintain regular payroll reports encompassing gross pay, hours worked, PTO, and other deductions

• Develop and uphold reports, controls, and procedures to ensure accurate payroll accounting and reporting

• Liaise with the HR department to ensure accurate benefit deductions and employee record-keeping

• Generate and analyze reports to support various teams such as executives, HR, Benefits, Finance, and others as required

• Serve as the primary contact for payroll service providers and related systems, addressing system issues, establishing new payrolls, implementing tax and regulatory changes, managing earning/deduction codes, and collaborating on system improvements

• Adhere strictly to established internal controls and maintain compliance with SOX procedures

• Communicate effectively and resolve payroll-related concerns for HR, Finance, and other departments

• Coordinate and provide information, records, and reports for internal and external payroll audits

• Continuously evaluate and refine payroll processes for optimal efficiency and accuracy

• Provide exceptional customer service by promptly responding to inquiries and offering consultations on payroll issues, including tax and regulatory matters

• Stay updated on relevant payroll knowledge, including federal, state, and local regulations, to ensure compliance and advise management on necessary actions

• Maintain confidentiality and security of all payroll information and data

• Prepare and distribute annual forms like W-2, 1099, 3921, and 83B

• Assist with annual financial statement audits, 401(k) audits, and other audits as required

• Participate in special projects as assigned. Requirements • Minimum of three years of experience in a Payroll Administrator role or similar

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is mandatory

• Familiarity with various accounting functions

• Experience in check processing

• Must have handled bi-monthly payroll in previous roles

• Knowledge of full cycle payroll processing

• Experience with multi-state payroll is desired

• Must have managed payroll for 101 - 500 employees

• Experience in handling payroll garnishments

• Prior experience in managing payroll for over 500 employees is a plus

• Proficiency in payroll tax reporting

• Experience in processing bi-weekly payroll

• Must be capable of reconciling payroll

• Experience with semi-monthly payrolls

• Must have handled weekly payroll in previous roles.
