Robert Half Senior Inventory Accountant in Houston, Texas

Description A growing oil field related manufacturing company is adding an Inventory/ Cost Accountant.

The Cost Accountant is responsible for the ongoing analysis of tracing inventory costs back to underlying activities, margin analysis, and process constraints. This position must construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. General ledger responsibilities include creating journal entries and assembling supporting documentation, as well as tracking the contents of accounts, creating portions of the financial statements, and writing related disclosures.

Job duties include:

• Knowledge of cost accounting methods

• Apply ideal cost accounting methods to our company

• Construct data accumulation systems for a cost accounting system

• Contribute to and ensure the accuracy of accounting data, transactions, and reports

• Apply and analyze landed cost

• Understand the impact of freight and tariff on inventory cost

• Review job orders for inaccuracies

• Work with regions to resolve inventory quantity and cost issues

• Review and resolve inventory variances

• Review work in process for inaccuracies

• Monitor unit cost variances

• Analyze inventory valuations

• Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close

• Perform quantity and cost adjustments to inventory

• Revise the reserve for obsolete and slow-moving inventory

• Reclassify inventory between item numbers

• Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems

• Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle count

• Investigate cycle counting variances and resolve issues

• Prepare and report on inventory related transactions

• Report on margins by product line, region, and location

• Perform reconciliations of all inventory related accounts

• Responsible for inventory lead sheets

Compensation is up to 90K plus bonus.

• Proficient in accounting functions including Auditing, Asset Inventory, Job Cost, Physical Count

• Familiarity with Syteline ERP is essential

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Proven ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• High level of integrity and dependability

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

• Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is preferred
