Robert Half Staff Accountant in Houston, Texas
Growing Manufacturing company in South Houston is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general ledger (GL) accounting tasks, with a particular focus on manufacturing cost accounting. Proficiency in Oracle and strong Excel skills are essential for this role. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial operations of the organization.
Staff Accountant Responsibilities:
Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
Assist with the analysis of GL accounts and provide explanations for variances.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze data related to manufacturing costs, such as materials, labor, and overhead.
Calculate and allocate costs to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) using appropriate costing methodologies.
Monitor and analyze manufacturing variances, investigating any discrepancies and proposing corrective actions.
Assist in the preparation of cost reports, budgets, and forecasts.
Contribute to the preparation of internal and external financial statements and reports.
Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance internal controls and ensure data integrity.
Staff Accountant Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting,
Minimum of 2 years of experience in general ledger accounting, preferably with a focus on manufacturing cost accounting.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in Oracle financial software is preferred
Advanced Excel skills, including Lookups, Pivot Tables, Etc.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
