Our client company is in the midst of a defined growth initiative and is acquiring multiple properties on a monthly basis. If you are good at planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff, this role might be right for you. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.

Your responsibilities in this role:

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

  • Inspect deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

  • Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

    Requirements - Distinguished analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • High attention to detail

  • Commercial Property Management experience desired

  • Good understanding of Yardi Property Management

  • Proven knowledge of Property Management Company

  • Earlier work involving Residential Property Management

  • Quality experience with Property Tax Returns

  • Practical knowledge of Property Tax

  • Wide ranging experience with Real Estate Property Management

  • Well-founded grasp of Property Management Firm

  • Experience with Property Management Accounting

  • Property Management experience

  • Deep understanding of Property Budgets

  • General familiarity with Property Management Software

  • Expertise in property accounting

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued

  • Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued
