Description Robert Half has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected services company. This is a leadership role with responsibility over an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations

  • Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

  • Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports Requirements - Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • General familiarity with financial statements consolidation

  • US GAAP experience desired

  • Financial reporting experience preferred

  • Proficiency in month end closings

  • Experience with Sales Tax

  • CPA experience highly preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial statement preparation

  • Practical knowledge of Monthly Financial Statements

  • Journal entries experience

  • Adeptness in Property Tax

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

  • Remarkable analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills
