Robert Half Medical Accounts Receivable Specialist in Indianapolis, Indiana


The Robert Half Healthcare practice is working with a notable healthcare company in the Indianapolis area to find their next Medical Accounts Receivable Specialist. You'll be responsible for reviewing denials and rejections for clinical reasons, identifying trends, and offering suggestions for process improvement. You'll also be responsible for ensuring that follow-up on denied claims occurs on a timely basis. Hours for this position will be M-F 8am-4:30pm.

Additional responsibilities are listed below:

  • Review denials and rejections for clinical reasons

  • Identify trends and offer suggestions for process improvement

  • Ensure follow-up on denied claims occurs on a timely basis

  • Research rejections included on EOBs for resolution

  • Categorize denials to assign tasks or personally work to overturn denials

  • Resubmit all claims denied due to technical reason and follow up on all claims denied for clinical reason

  • Conduct inquiries via phone, mail, fax, or electronically to conduct follow up on the accounts that have not been denied and resubmitted for payment

  • Contact patients for additional information needed to get claim paid

  • Maintain follow-up procedures and working relationships with area responsible for the information, including; Medical Records Department, Patient Access, and/or physicians

  • Document activity in an accurate and timely manner on the patient’s account

  • Assist when needed in the researching of unidentified payments and/or recoupments to determine correct transaction to include but not limit to refund requests and take backs


  • High School diploma/GED required

  • Associates/Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • RHIA or RHIT preferred

  • Additional certifications from AHIMA or AAPC preferred, but not required

  • Medical EHR/EMR experience preferred
