Robert Half Staff Accountant in Isle of Wight, Virginia

Description We are looking to add a Staff Accountant to our team, based in Isle of Wight, Virginia. This role will involve a range of accounting functions, with a focus on governmental accounting, within a local government context. The successful candidate will support the finance team in areas such as budgeting, auditing, debt management, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting and analysis.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and ledgers.

• Support the processing of journal entries and reconciliations.

• Aid in the formulation of the annual budget and forecasts.

• Monitor departmental budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with policies.

• Process invoices, payments, and receipts in line with municipal guidelines.

• Contribute to the management of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.

• Help prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and stakeholders.

• Contribute to the preparation of financial statements in line with GAAP, GASB and state and local regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Assist in preparing for external audits and reviews, and respond to auditor inquiries.

• Stay updated on relevant laws and accounting standards.

• Provide support in various administrative tasks within the finance department.

• Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.

• Use skills in Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Bank Reconciliations, General Ledger, Journal Entries, Month End Close, Tyler Technologies Munis. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

• At least one year of experience in a similar role

• Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Proficiency in Bank Reconciliations, General Ledger management, and Journal Entries

• Experience with Month End Close procedures

• Familiarity with Tyler Technologies Munis software

• Excellent communication and organization skills

• High attention to detail and accuracy in work

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification would be an asset

• Knowledge of accounting best practices and regulations

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Willingness to continue education and stay updated on industry trends and changes in regulations.
