Robert Half seeks a Controller to become a part of a successful company and take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Knoxville, Tennessee region. If you can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff, you might be right for this position. Your responsibilities

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

-Active CPA license is preferred

Requirements - Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"

  • Be detailed, flexible, and organized

  • Prior work done in public accounting is desired

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Cash forecasting experience

  • Bank Account Reconciliation experience preferred

  • Practical knowledge of Policies And Procedure

  • Strong familiarity with Balance Sheet Reconciliation

  • Proven knowledge of budget forecasting

  • Comprehensive knowledge of CPA Designation

  • Well-founded grasp of month end closings

  • Journal entries experience preferred

  • General familiarity with financial statement preparation

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Excellent verbal, written, and social skills

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
