Robert Half Full Charge Bookkeeper in Las Cruces, New Mexico

You will be responsible for all general accounting and bookkeeping functions, such as preparing financial statements, and establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives. The short-term contract / temporary Full Charge Bookkeeper will work in Las Cruces, NM.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintaining historical records by filing documents

  • Preparing the trial balance and financial statements, including balance sheet and statements regarding income and cash flows

  • Performing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including collections

  • Performing reconciliations for bank and general ledgers, as well as payroll processing

  • Tracking fixed assets to produce depreciation schedules

  • Overseeing accounting clerks and entry-level bookkeepers

  • Maintaining knowledge of current federal, state, and local legal requirements, ensuring adherence to them, filing reports, and communicating with management on needed actions

  • Ensuring correct and punctual monthly, quarterly and year end close


  • 3 or more years of experience in the bookkeeping field

    • Excel, Quickbooks, and Peachtree experience desired
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must

  • High school diploma or similar accreditation, and an AA degree or higher in Accounting or Business recommended

  • Payroll experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

  • Accounts Receivable (AR) experience

  • Bank reconciliations experience

  • Expertise in Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Prepare Checks experience highly desired

  • Strong familiarity with Full Charge Bookkeeping

  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in procedures and job assignments

  • Outstanding skills in analyzing financial data and promptly generating accurate reports

  • A deep understanding of accrual and cash basis of accounting

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
