As a Lease Accountant, you will be tasked with reading leases, determining the proper accounting treatment, translating leases into income payments and determine expense recovery. The Lease Accountant will analyze leases in our portfolio, playing a critical role in interpreting and managing information in the leases. Translating leases into revenue accounting and financial projections is a core component of this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and interpret commercial retail, office, and residential leases (including new lease executions, amendments, terminations, assignments, etc.).

  • Abstract leases, translate and implement lease information into accounting software (Yardi).

  • Calculate, prepare, and send periodic and year-end Common Area Maintenance (CAM) and real estate tax recovery billings.

  • Calculate, prepare and send adjustments for CAM, insurance and tax based on budgeted reimbursements versus actual expenses.

  • Collaborate with other business units on the budgeting process.

  • Processes account adjustments and prepares account reconciliations.

  • Work with property management to monitor compliance of lease provisions and support collections of recovery billings.

  • Responsible for identifying A/R issues, and work with other business units to resolve tenant A/R issues using sound judgement to develop recovery strategy.

  • Prepare robust reporting to management on A/R and collections each month.

  • Prepare robust reporting to management summarizing key lease terms (lease abstracts, critical dates, key terms, key issues, etc.)

  • Effectively work and communicate with other members of the Company to ensure established deadlines are being met in an efficient manner.

    Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of relevant lease administration or lease accounting experience with a real estate, brokerage or property management company is required.

  • Strong background in preparation and billing of common area maintenance and real estate expense recoveries in retail and/or office.

  • Independent worker with strong organizational and team skills.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Motivated and results-driven with strong work ethic.
