This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Lawrence, Massachusetts region. Planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff will be essential for this role. The ideal candidate for this position can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Key responsibilities

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

  • Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports

  • Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual

  • Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

  • Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required

    Requirements

  • Non-profit industry related experience

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Extraordinary analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Sound written and verbal communication skills

  • Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

  • General ledger experience required

  • Solid understanding of Annual Budget

  • Experience with Financial Statement

  • Direct Supervision experience

  • Proficiency in Balance Sheet Reconciliation

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
