Robert Half Senior Finance Manager in Los Altos, California

Description

We are offering a unique opportunity for an interim Assistant Controller at a Venture Capital company in Los Altos, California. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the venture capital industry, with a strong foundation in accounting and finance. This role is pivotal in supporting the Controller and CFO in managing financial operations, reporting, and compliance for the firm and its funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, with a focus on venture capital-specific reporting requirements.

  • Assist in the preparation of detailed management reports, investor reports, and financial presentations tailored to the needs of venture capital stakeholders.

  • Conduct thorough variance analysis and provide insights on financial performance, emphasizing portfolio company metrics and fund performance.

  • Maintain accurate accounting records for multiple venture capital funds, ensuring timely and accurate capital calls, distributions, and fund expense management.

  • Oversee the accounting treatment for portfolio company investments, including valuations, fair value adjustments, and monitoring of investment performance.

  • Coordinate with portfolio companies to gather and analyze financial data, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.

  • Support the annual audits and tax filings for the firm and its venture capital funds, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors.

  • Ensure compliance with venture capital industry regulations and internal policies, implementing best practices for financial controls.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of internal control procedures specific to venture capital operations.

  • Collaborate with the finance team to streamline processes and improve operational efficiencies, leveraging venture capital industry knowledge.

  • Support the Controller in ad-hoc projects and initiatives, including new fund launches, portfolio company transactions, and financial modeling.

  • Manage relationships with external service providers, including fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors, ensuring seamless coordination.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, with a strong preference for experience in venture capital or private equity.

  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards, with specific experience in venture capital fund accounting and reporting.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; experience with venture capital-specific software (e.g., Carta, eFront) is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced venture capital setting.
