Robert Half is reviewing candidates for a renowned services company for an ambitious, determined Controller. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. Based in the Los Angeles, California area, this opening for a Controller is a permanent position.
What you get to do every single day
Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash
Complete tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners
Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis
Review deliverables of self and team to align with client expectations
Requirements
Strong communication and social skills and able to receive criticism well
CPA required
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
Vow to meet business deadlines
Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued
Strong attention to detail
Critical thinking skills and the ability to retain complex work directions
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Command of financial statement preparation
Month end closings experience desired
