A current opening through Robert Half, seeks an ambitious, determined Controller to join the team at a prominent services company. This is a leadership role with responsibility over an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, handles the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluates accounting and internal control systems, and leads departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Los Angeles, California area.

How you will make an impact

  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports

  • Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations

  • Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

    Requirements - Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)

  • Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • Financial statement preparation experience required

  • Foundational knowledge in Commision Functions

  • Commision Functions experience

  • Month end closings experience

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Strong attention to detail

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Skillful in analytical, quantitative and social skills
