Robert Half Senior Accountant (Nonprofit) in Los Angeles, California

Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team on a temp-to-hire basis.The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing the financial activities of the organization. This includes ensuring accuracy and compliance in all accounting processes, preparing financial reports, conducting audits, and supporting the organization’s financial planning and budgeting efforts. This role is vital in helping us maintain financial integrity and achieve our mission.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Ensure timely and accurate closing of financial records.

  • Accounting Operations:

  • Oversee daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.

  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts.

  • Monitor and report on budget variances.

  • Compliance and Auditing:

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare for and coordinate external audits.

  • Implement and monitor internal controls.

  • Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.

  • Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data.

  • Grants and Funding:

  • Manage accounting for grants and restricted funds.

  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements and reporting requirements.

  • Team Leadership:

  • Provide guidance and support to accounting staff.

  • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior role.

  • Nonprofit accounting experience highly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud) and MS Office Suite.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
