Description
Robert Half is looking for an accomplished, motivated Staff Accountant for a permanent position within a prestigious Real Estate & Property company. The Staff Accountant will prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance and general ledger reconciliation. Throughout the monthly close, you will also be responsible for various aspects of internal reporting. Lend your skills towards developing and implementing accounting policies. Also, you will participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. This role is very integrated as it plays a part in the production of Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. Located in the Madison, Wisconsin area, this position is a challenging, multi-faceted opportunity to work for a company that recognizes and rewards hard work.
Key responsibilities
Manage schedules for monthly payments and capital lease
Assist in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
Support the month end, quarter end and year end closing process by preparing monthly financial close workbooks
Ad hoc reporting and performing special projects upon request
Become well-versed in month end balance sheet account reconciliations
Organize and review various financial data, then report it in a manner that is useful and understandable
Take part in various department-wide initiatives
Manage depreciation, fixed asset ledgers, and reconciliation
Compose thorough journal entries and account reconciliations which include, but are not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll
Periodic maintenance and reconciliation of journal entries
Handle intercompany transactions, billings, and reconciliation
Produce journal entries and perform the month end close under minimal supervision
Produce analyses for monthly balance sheets and income statements for reporting by management

Requirements - Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
Recent and relevant accounting experience
BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
Fully formed organizational, written and verbal communication skills
Spreadsheet and database capabilities
Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines
Accounts Receivable (AR) experience
Chargebacks experience required
Financial statement preparation experience
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Deep understanding of commissions
Sales tax experience preferred
Adeptness in customer invoices
Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases
Current and relevant ERP system experience
