Robert Half Staff Accountant in Maplewood, New Jersey


THIS IS A HYBRID ROLE. A well-established manufacturer of utilities for electric/gas distribution is looking to add a Staff Accountant to their team, located near Maplewood, NJ. This Staff Accountant candidate will prepare and maintain financial records in an effort to track the company’s assets, liabilities (& tax liabilities), profit & loss, and other related finance activities. This candidate will report to the Controller of the company and should be energetic, willing to interact with his/her team, able to adapt to a fast-paced environment, and have excellent planning skills (as well as a strong attention to detail). Additionally, the ideal candidate will have roughly 2-3 years’ experience in a similar field (manufacturing of products), ERP experience, and advanced Excel skills. Other responsibilities and requirements are as follows:


•Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.

•Enter journal entries

•Set up Vendors in accordance with 1099 regulations

•Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.

•Maintains the general ledger.

•Record all daily cash transactions, verifies deposits, administers positive pay and addresses inquiries from banks.

•Reconcile Intercompany accounts

•Weekly sales and management cash reporting

•Monthly segment reporting

•Assist with metals accounting for cost accounting group

•Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.

•Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.

•Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.

•Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.

•Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.

•Performs other related duties as assigned.

•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently.

Previous Experience:

•Candidate should be a qualified accountant with 2 to 3years’ experience gained in a similar role in industry, ideally in a product-based business

•Advanced Microsoft Excel skills coupled with the ability to develop automated processes to extract raw data from an ERP and convert to high quality management information

•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

•To be determined as needed – may include supplemental on-line training courses in new ERP system
