Job Title: Medical Data Entry Clerk

Job Description:

The Medical Data Entry Clerk is responsible for managing and updating patient records within a healthcare system. This includes data entry of personal, medical, and health information into the organization's database or Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Attention to detail, accuracy, and respect for patient confidentiality are critical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enter patient information and relevant medical data into a computer system or database accurately and in a timely manner. This may include details such as patient personal information, medical history, test results, diagnosis codes, etc.

  • Review data to ensure accuracy. Cross-check entered data with existing databases or paper records to detect and rectify any errors.

  • Translate medical abbreviations and jargons into their expanded forms while entering data.

  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling all patient data in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

  • Help in maintaining and updating patient records. Participate in the development and implementation of data management policies and procedures.

  • Organize and maintain data for clinical databases and registries.

  • Conduct regular software back-ups to ensure no data loss occurs.

  • Perform any other administrative duties as assigned such as responding to inquiries, filing, and maintaining an organized work area.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. A degree or certification in a related field is advantageous.

  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare environment is preferred.

  • Fast typing skills with an emphasis on accuracy.

  • Proficiency in using databases, Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, and medical software programs.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology.

  • Understanding of the regulations regarding patient data confidentiality (HIPAA).

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a busy work environment.
