Robert Half International BI Analyst in Memphis, Tennessee


The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst will gather data requirements and cleanse data for the purpose of publishing reports and dashboards that allow leadership to make key, informed decisions. This involves working with multiple departments to gather requirements, set expectations, and deliver results. Compile, translate and implement business requirements using interviews, document analysis, storyboards, use cases, business process descriptions, and scenarios. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Liaison between the end users and the software development teams to translate requirements and build the mappings between the source data and the BI data warehouse.

  2. Ensure that data is well formatted, easy to understand and accessible to authorized users.

  3. Request modifications/additions to database systems that match the requirements of a specific business model needs to development team.

  4. Create data views as needed to support the data model and end user understanding.

  5. Review data and documentation to determine locations and business requirements for storing source data.

  6. Mine data from source(s) and reorganize data into formats that can be easily read, understood and consumed by stakeholders.

  7. Use statistical tools to interpret data sets.

  8. Help establish KPIs to measure the effectiveness of business decisions.

  9. Prepare reports and dashboards to communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data.

  10. Assist or train certain users in application tools and dashboard or report creation.

  11. Work with team on data and application migration, integration, and implementation.

  12. Collaborate with users, project managers and leadership to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend modifications to the team.

  14. Regular and reliable attendance expected.

  15. Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.


Minimum Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Required

  1. BS, BA degree in MIS, Computer Science or related field or experience.

  2. At least 5 years’ experience in data storage and analysis of relational databases.

  3. Prior experience in business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Microstrategy, DOMO, Power BI, or other BI tools.

  4. Programming experience; SQL, DB2, MySQL, PHP, C#

  5. Relational database proficiency and expertise in data gathering, cleansing and transforming techniques.

  6. Reporting and data visualization skills using Tableau or other software.

  7. Experience developing logical data models within a data warehouse.

  8. Experience in database concepts and database implementations and design patterns.

  9. Experience developing ETL processes.

  10. Working knowledge of data gathering, cleaning and transforming techniques.

  11. Proven ability to work with users to define requirements and business issues.

  12. Ability to translate problems clearly and in nontechnical terms.

  13. Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills.

  14. Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

  15. Effective written and oral communication skills.

  16. Transportation or logistics industry experience preferred, but not required.
