Description

The Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the IT infrastructure to support the company's operations. This role requires extensive experience with VMware technologies to manage virtualized environments and ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • VMware Management: Design, deploy, and maintain VMware virtual environments, including vSphere, ESXi hosts, and vCenter Server. Perform regular updates, patching, and upgrades.

  • Infrastructure Design: Develop and implement infrastructure solutions that align with business objectives, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.

  • System Administration: Manage and maintain Windows and Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance and uptime. Perform regular system monitoring and maintenance.

  • Storage Management: Configure and manage storage solutions, including SAN and NAS systems. Monitor storage performance and capacity, and perform necessary upgrades and optimizations.

  • Network Support: Collaborate with the network team to ensure seamless integration of virtualized environments with network infrastructure. Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues.

  • Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability. Perform regular backups and test recovery procedures.

  • Security Management: Ensure systems are secure by implementing and maintaining security protocols, including firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion detection/prevention systems. Regularly review and apply security patches.

  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency using tools such as PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of the IT infrastructure, including configuration details, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Technical Support: Provide advanced technical support to resolve complex issues escalated from the help desk. Collaborate with other IT teams to diagnose and resolve system-related problems.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience with VMware technologies.

  • Certifications: VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher preferred. Additional certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), CompTIA Server+, or similar are advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • VMware Expertise: In-depth knowledge of VMware products, including vSphere, ESXi, vCenter Server, and related technologies.

  • System Administration: Proficient in managing Windows and Linux servers, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • Storage Solutions: Experience with SAN and NAS storage systems, including configuration and performance optimization.

  • Networking Knowledge: Understanding of network protocols, configuration, and troubleshooting, particularly in relation to virtualized environments.

  • Security Best Practices: Familiarity with security protocols, including firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.

  • Automation Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash for task automation and system management.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with other IT professionals.
