Robert Half Staff Accountant in Middle River, Maryland

Description An up-and-coming firm in the Energy/Natural Resources industry has teamed up with Robert Half to find an efficient Staff Accountant to join their team. As a Staff Accountant, you'll be responsible for preparing journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. During the monthly close, you will have charge over many aspects of internal reporting. In addition, you will look over schedules for the reporting processes, participate in compliance, and keep in touch with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits. A good deal of time in this position will be spent on producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. Located in the Middle River, Maryland area, the company offering this challenging long-term contract / temporary opportunity provides a thriving environment and rewards effort.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out month end close, journal entries, without supervision

  • Manage the design and creation of balance sheet analysis and communicate reports to management

  • Help with the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP

  • Produce complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

  • Partake in annual closing processes

  • Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested

  • Be a part of various initiatives spanning multiple departments

  • Support fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

  • Offer succinct analysis on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a clear and concise manner

  • Manage capital lease and monthly payment schedules Requirements - Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required

  • Account reconciliation experience highly desired

  • Adeptness in Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Expertise in journal entries

  • Strong familiarity with general ledger

  • Balance sheets experience preferred

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics

  • Spreadsheet and database capabilities

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

  • Proficient with spreadsheets and databases

  • 5+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

  • Current and relevant ERP system experience
