Description We are in search of a Controller to join our team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This role involves overseeing all accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis. The Controller will develop and maintain accounting policies, conduct internal audits, manage the annual budgeting process, and supervise a team of accounting professionals.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee and manage all accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies in compliance with GAAP and implement relevant FASB pronouncements.
• Conduct internal audits and recommend procedural enhancements to improve financial processes and controls.
• Lead monthly financial reporting, including actual-to-budget comparisons, and analyze financial statements and trends.
• Manage the annual budgeting process, consolidating departmental inputs and providing ongoing support and analysis for the operating and capital budgets.
• Supervise a team of accounting professionals, providing direction, support, and ensuring staff training and performance alignment with department goals.
• Manage daily cash functions and banking processes, preparing quarterly covenant calculations, and managing bank transfers.
• Oversee the preparation of industry and government reports, as well as manage tax return filings.
• Maximize the use of accounting systems for accounting functions, leading process improvements, and testing software updates and releases.
• Perform other tasks as assigned to support departmental and College objectives. Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Controller role or similar position
• Proven expertise in Accounting Functions, Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Experience with Auditing and Budget Processes is essential
• Proficiency in Month-end Close Activities, Month-end Journal Entries, and Month-end Reports
• Knowledge of Fund Accounting - Non-Profit and Non-profit Accounting is required
• Experience with Grant Accounting and Grant Management will be advantageous
• Familiarity with Payroll and Budgeting - Forecasting procedures is crucial
• Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude
• Proficiency in using accounting software and other relevant computer applications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
• Professional accounting certification (such as CPA or CMA) is preferred.
