Description Robert Half has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected services company. In this leadership role, you will manage an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Minneapolis, Minnesota region.

What you get to do every day

  • Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations

  • Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports

  • Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

  • Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

  • Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection Requirements - Candidate must possess first-rate analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Be detailed, flexible, and organized

  • Comprehensive knowledge of grant accounting

  • GAAP Accounting experience preferred

  • Proficiency in month end closings

  • Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

  • Excellent verbal, written, and social skills

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

  • Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
