Robert Half Finance Director in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Description This exciting position for a determined Controller for an esteemed Legal company is being filled by Robert Half. This is a leadership role with responsibility over an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the Minneapolis, Minnesota region.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual

  • Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

  • Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

  • Inspect deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports Requirements - 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

  • Shared Services experience desired

  • General familiarity with year end closings

  • Prepare Financial Reports experience

  • Background working with financial analysis

  • Expertise in Accounting management

  • Demonstrated knowledge of month end closings

  • Proficiency in Legal Services

  • Budget forecasting experience highly preferred

  • Adeptness in Trust accounting

  • Practical knowledge of general ledger

  • Microsoft Excel experience highly desired

  • Notable analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

  • Strong communication and social skills and able to receive criticism well

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
