Robert Half Accounts Payable Supervisor/Manager in Morrisville, North Carolina


Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position owns all areas of accounts payable, expense management, and general accruals by processing vendor, employee, and other AP activities including maintaining records of amounts owed, verifying invoices and payments, coding expenses, and preparing batches for payment. Responsible for timely processing of payments and the month-end close of AP. Prepares and/or reviews AP account reconciliations and journal entries. Maintains accurate and complete vendor and employee records. Serves as a liaison between the AP department and internal/external parties. Advocate for change management within the AP department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages AP for all daily/weekly/monthly activities

  • Ensures disbursements and expense reimbursements are made in compliance with policies and procedures including three-way match has been performed, properly authorized and substantiated

  • Code invoices, vouchers, and check requests based on the Chart of Accounts, and ensures all supporting documentation

  • Ensures disbursements are proper, correctly coded, made timely including Corporate Cards and P-cards via company expense reimbursement system

  • Oversees the release of funds both via paper checks and electronically

  • Responsible for monitoring blanket purchase order balances to ensure funding is available

  • Responsible for determining general accruals and preparation of accrual entries

  • Maintains Goods in Transit listings with appropriate back-up

  • Provides superior customer service in advising vendors, providers, department heads, directors, and others on all matters related to disbursements and invoice and payment requests

  • Monitors vendor database to ensure vendor, provider, and employee data is accurate

  • Documents and maintains AP process workflow documents

  • Partners with Accounting Manager and Controller to drive process improvements within department

  • Reviews AP-related financial statements and provides variance analysis for expense accounts

  • Create Standard Operating Procedures and Manuals for payables function

  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education

  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in accounts payable

  • Technologically savvy with extensive ERP system experience

  • Strong communication, decision-making, analytical skills

  • Demonstrated skills in problem assessment and resolution, analysis, and collaboration across multiple departments

  • Tariffs and freight surcharge experience a plus

  • Proficiency with internal and external audits is a plus

  • Familiarity with cross-currency accounting is a plus

  • Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities and strict deadlines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of ERP and Salesforce helpful

  • Demonstrated use of initiative and ability to make appropriate linkages in work requirements and anticipate next steps

  • Knowledge of State and local regulations with regard to accounts payable
