Description Legal Assistants directly support lawyers and occasionally oversee other legal staff, such as file clerks or legal secretaries.Legal Assistants should have computer and technical knowledge as well as strong analytical, communication and organizational skills.In some cases, law firms prefer three to five years of legal experience in a law firm or other corporate legal department.
How you will make an impact
Develop an organization system for e-documents and files
Draft communications and memorandum
Request and retrieve electronic documents from a variety of court and agency web sites
Regulate computer database input and retrieval
Scan and photocopy documents
Archive documents and assemble data as directed by lawyers and paralegals
Control matter management and record keeping
Reside over legal research and investigative tasks, including obtaining information or documents from outside parties, as directed
Check to make sure copied documents are legitimate like the originals
Word processing, faxing, and filing Requirements - Drafting legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas; transactional documents, such as trusts, wills, contracts and real estate leases; and closing documents
Experience assisting lawyers in preparing for transactional closings, depositions, hearings, trials and conferences; completing many administrative tasks, including, working on individual cases or transactions
Organizing and tracking files for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database
3+ years of previous legal work experience and a dedication to integrity
Strong familiarity with Answering Inquiries
Proven knowledge of Assist Attorneys
Assist Attorneys experience highly desired
Answering Inbound Calls experience
Expertise in Answering Inquiries
Schedule Meetings experience preferred
Conducting routine discovery
Investigating the factual evidence of a transaction or case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information
