Robert Half Assistant Controller in New Orleans, Louisiana

Description

Robert Half Finance & Accounting is partnering with a rapidly growing construction services company in New Orleans in search of an Assistant Controller! In this Assistant Controller role, you will utilize your problem solving skills by taking initiative to identity and resolve possible inefficiencies and assist with process improvements in the department. One of the Assistant Controller's tasks includes overseeing the accounting staff and reporting updates to the organization's CFO. Responsibilities:

  • Backfill for Controller as appropriate

  • Compose diverse procedures, policies, and technical accounting analyses

  • Work on other requests when required

  • Specify and generate process improvements to streamline reporting and improve team efficiency

  • Assist with the preparation of GAAP financial statements, including budgeting and forecasting

  • Aid implementation and guarantee adherence to accounting policies and procedures

  • Encourage accountability and the meeting of deliverables

  • Inspect and make Ad Hoc financial reports

  • Formulate relevant and timely reports on financial data analytics like actual spend against budgets/outlook, key financial metrics, and the monthly flash report

  • Innovative preparation and coordination of fiscal year-end audits

  • Support the accounting team during the closing process to confirm deadlines are met

  • Assure regular account reconciliation to completion

    Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

  • 5+ years of general ledger accounting experience

    • Profound knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Proficiency in month end closings

  • Expertise in financial reporting

  • Fixed assets experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial statement preparation

  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • CPA certification a plus

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks to prioritize needs and expedite tasks upon request

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and IIA standards

  • Proven analytical skills - defining problems, collecting relevant data, drawing valid conclusions, and recommending improvement/corrective actions
