Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Staff Accountant in the bustling city of New York, New York. Working within the retail industry, the chosen individual will support our team with various financial tasks, including month-end close, financial reporting, and complex tax return preparation.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in the execution of month-end close procedures to ensure timely financial reporting
• Maintain accurate financial records and perform reconciliations as necessary
• Facilitate the preparation and filing of complex tax returns in collaboration with auditors and tax consultants
• Actively participate in the financial reporting process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations
• Provide support during audits and liaise with external auditors and tax consultants as necessary
• Monitor financial transactions and flag any irregularities for investigation
• Contribute to the quarter-end financial procedures to ensure accurate reporting
• Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency
• Collaborate with the larger team to ensure smooth operation of end closing tasks
• Perform other accounting duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability Requirements • Candidate must have a strong understanding of financial reporting
• Proficiency in complex tax return preparation is essential
• Familiarity with month-end close procedures is required
• Experience with quarter-end accounting tasks is necessary
• A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required
• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel is expected
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential
• Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment is necessary
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are expected
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required
• High attention to detail and accuracy in work is essential
• Previous experience in a similar role within the retail industry would be advantageous.
