Robert Half is partnering with a city organization in the Portland metro area to help them find their next IT Manager. The IT Manager, takes on a hands-on management role, actively engaging in day-to-day tasks alongside the 5-member IT team. The best fit for this position will undoubtedly exhibit strong management and technical abilities and demonstrate exceptional internal and external communication skills. The role encompasses managing the City's overall information technology functions and technical disciplines. This includes computer operations and support, applications development, voice and data networking, database development, as well as systems software.

This role requires onsite presence with rare opportunities for remote work. The ability to be flexible and respond quickly to unforeseen or emergency technical issues is crucial. The off-hour commitment can include system upgrades, meetings, and addressing urgent issues. The IT Manager will engage with Public Works, Planning and Development, the Library, and the Police department which operates a 911/Dispatch Center on site.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist with the planning and coordination of information technology services which include enterprise computing, networking, disaster recovery, and electronic mail services.

  • Manage technologies and provide administrative assistance for various systems

  • Understand various IT troubleshooting and provide technical support

  • Control and monitor data, network access and backup systems

  • Negotiate and communicate with third-party software providers for new software's and troubleshooting

  • Establish work and technical standards, communicate those standards to staff and ensure adherence.

  • Consult with vendors, consultants and outside agencies regarding technology issues facing the City.

  • Maintains adequate security of City information technology systems and develops security plans to mitigate risk for the City; recommends policy and procedures related to the use and security of City information technology systems.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant field

  • 5+ years of experience in related field

  • Experience in information technology space and solving various software and hardware problems

  • Strong technical problem solving and communication skills

  • Well rounded Systems Administrator background

  • Be available for occasional after hours or weekend system upgrades or emergencies

  • Extensive experience with MS Office Suite, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Active Directory, MS Server.

  • Accustomed to working with On-prem environment with daily backups, and some Azure Cloud experience.

  • Experience providing technical support to 911 or any dispatch service highly preferred
