Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Controller based close to San Rafael, California. This role will be primarily office-based and will involve working in a brokerage firm. The successful candidate will handle and engage with potential trade executing brokers, interact with the firm's Prime Broker, and perform fund accounting for the hedge fund. The role also includes executing accounting functions for the firm.
Responsibilities:
• Handle and engage with potential trade executing brokers, including account openings, trade executions/breaks, and compliance requirements
• Interact with the firm's Prime Broker to download trade blotter and portfolio appraisal, and carry out daily reconciliation of cash position and portfolio holdings
• Input trades daily, perform trade allocations between accounts, and rebalance portfolio exposure
• Perform daily pricing of portfolios, review fund performance daily, and report on it, identifying performance attribution
• Perform fund accounting for the hedge fund, including collection of management fees, allocation of gains, income, and expenses, and preparation of account statements for fund's Partners
• Engage with fund auditor and fund legal counsel, prepare fund reports for the auditors, and review auditor's final reports and form K-1s
• Execute accounting functions for the firm, including payment of firm's vendors, monitoring firm's cash position, handling payroll and related tasks, and performing bank reconciliation
• Engage with firm's tax accountant, prepare and submit tax supporting documents to tax accountant for quarterly tax estimates, and review drafts of tax returns
• Prepare accounting reports for the firm's Principal, including cash liquidity report, bond holdings report, family asset report, and other ad hoc reports that may be needed for various family investments.
Requirements • Demonstrable experience in the role of a Controller for a period of at least 10 years
• Proficient in executing Accounting Functions
• In-depth knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Skilled in performing Auditing tasks
• Familiarity with Budget Processes
• Proven track record in Fund Accounting
• Proficiency in using QuickBooks software for financial management
• Experience in using Advent - Axys software
• Understanding of Equity Trading and Fixed Income Trading processes
• Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic planning skills
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
