Description
Robert Half is partnered with a government entity looking for a Senior Accountant to join their organization in Norfolk, VA.
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Accountant with experience in general accounting as well as payroll. The individual will be responsible for the financial management and reporting activities of our organization, ensuring compliance with all government regulations and integrity of our financial data. Key tasks include budgeting, financial analysis, assessing accuracy of financial operations, and managing payroll.
Responsibilities:
General accounting functions, including chart of accounts and general ledger, cash receipts, payroll, financial forecasting, etc.
Oversee the complete payroll process and ensure its accurate and timely execution. This includes managing payroll transactions, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and internal policies, and addressing future payroll changes or adjustments.
Perform monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting; including budgeting, financial forecasts and statements.
Ensure all transaction record keepings and financial operations are in compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations and policies.
Conduct periodic audits and prepare audit findings reports.
Reconcile financial discrepancies by analyzing and investigating account information.
Reviewing and recommending modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
Ensure all tax forms and payments are completed accurately and submitted by the given deadlines.
Liaison with external auditors, tax agents, and regulatory bodies.
Provide coaching to junior accounting staff.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree or CPA certification is preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Accounting roles, with at least 1+years in a similar role in a government entity.
Prior experience in managing payroll is a plus
Excellent knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local government rules and regulations.
Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements.
Strong problem-solving skills and understanding of accounting principles.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Proficiency in accounting software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
Attention to detail with outstanding analytical and numerical skills.
