Labor and Employment Legal Assistant Job Description
A Labor and Employment Paralegal assists attorneys specializing in employment law. This is a dynamic field encompassing various workplace issues. Your duties will depend on the specific firm and the types of cases they handle, but generally you can expect to:
Conduct legal research on employment law topics like discrimination, wage and hour issues, wrongful termination, or workplace safety.
Help prepare legal documents and briefs for cases. This may involve summarizing depositions, drafting correspondence, or compiling chronologies of events.
Interview clients and witnesses to gather information about their experiences.
Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all relevant documents and information are readily available.
Assist with discovery, which involves collecting and exchanging information from the opposing side in a legal case.
Stay up-to-date on current employment law developments and legal precedents.
May also help manage attorney schedules, prepare for hearings or trials, and draft communications with clients.
Success in this role requires:
Strong research and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in legal terminology and software
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Meticulous attention to detail
Strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines
Requirements - Ability to recognize, evaluate, and resolve problems effectively
Willing and able to own projects, writing and negotiating, planning and organizing
Being savvy with word processing and spreadsheets is favorable
Detailed, accurate, and an ability to handle confidential information
Deep understanding of employment law
Solid understanding of Civil Litigation
Labor law experience required
Foundational knowledge in Commercial Litigation
Customer service oriented communication skills
