Description

A reputable California law firm is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Litigation Attorney to join its dedicated legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling insurance defense matters, including personal injury, property damage, and general liability cases. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse caseload, providing support in all phases of litigation, from case inception through resolution. This contract to hire opportunity requires candidates to be local to Oakland, CA for on-site collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing a high-volume caseload of insurance defense matters, including auto liability, premises liability, construction defect, and professional liability claims.

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft motions, pleadings, discovery, and briefs tailored to the defense of complex insurance claims.

  • Support all aspects of discovery, including drafting discovery requests and responses, conducting document review, and preparing for depositions.

  • Provide clear and proactive communication with clients, insurance adjusters, and risk management teams, ensuring all parties are informed of case progress and strategies.

  • Assist in negotiation and settlement discussions on behalf of clients, including participation in mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.

  • Ensure that all legal activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and insurance policies.

    Requirements

Key Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Active California State Bar membership in good standing.

  • 3+ years of experience in insurance defense litigation, with a proven ability to manage complex cases.

  • Strong litigation skills, including experience with motion practice, discovery, and legal writing.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in legal research and writing.

  • Familiarity with insurance policies, coverage issues, and California Insurance Code.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.

  • Proficiency in case management software and legal technology tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in commercial general liability (CGL), products liability, or professional liability defense.

  • Familiarity with insurance coverage analysis and bad faith litigation.
