Robert Half Insurance Authorization Specialist in Oakland, California

Description

We are seeking a highly organized and dedicated Insurance Authorization Specialist for a local healthcare client in the Oakland area. The successful candidate will facilitate the patients' access to medical care by obtaining prior authorizations from insurance providers for services to be provided, including tests, surgeries, and other necessary procedures as ordered by the medical staff.

Responsibilities:

· Obtaining and maintaining appropriate patient insurance pre-certifications, pre-authorizations, and referrals.

· Liaising with physicians, patients, insurances, and facilities to ensure prompt and proper payment for medical services.

· Researching the details and extent of coverage with each insurance carrier to ensure accurate information is relayed to health care providers and patients.

· Keeping track of the authorization process using appropriate electronic tools and databases.

· Ensuring insurance authorizations, deductibles, and co-pays are collected correctly and in a timely manner.

· Reviewing patient schedules for all anticipated procedures to ensure that all necessary insurance authorizations and referrals have been obtained.

· Navigating the insurance denial process by putting together a concise application for an appeal, working alongside physicians as needed.

· Maintaining patient confidentiality as per HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

· Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business or a medical field.

· At least two years of experience working in medical insurance/billing or a related field.

· Comprehensive understanding of health insurance practices, including coverage limits and patient obligations.

· Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of the pre-authorization process.

· Knowledge of billing software and electronic medical records systems.

· Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.

· Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.

· Ability to adapt and respond to changes in a fast-paced work environment.
