Robert Half Labor Relations Counsel in Oakland, California
Description
An Oakland-based public transit agency is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Counsel with a strong background in employment law, government agency operations, and labor union negotiations.
The Labor & Employment Counsel will provide expert legal advice and representation on a wide range of employment law and labor relations matters. The primary focus of this role is on managing and negotiating collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and fostering positive relationships with labor unions and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead collective bargaining agreement (CBA) management and negotiation efforts with labor unions.
Provide strategic guidance on a range of labor and employment matters, including policy development, employee relations, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
Represent the agency in labor union negotiations, grievance arbitrations, and hearings.
Collaborate with internal departments to offer expert counsel on employment practices, workplace investigations, and employment litigation strategies.
Ensure agency compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, particularly regarding public sector employment regulations.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active membership in the California State Bar.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in employment law and labor relations.
Proven experience in negotiating and managing collective bargaining agreements.
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Experience managing CBAs within or for government agencies; background in government agency or public sector employment highly preferred.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Must be local to Oakland, CA, for in-person negotiations and team collaboration.
