Position: RF Telecommunications Engineer

Our client is a leading company in the telecommunications industry, seeking a highly skilled Senior RF Telecommunications Engineer. This role involves performing RF designs for 3G/4G and 5G fixed and mobile broadband networks, as well as unlicensed fixed wireless networks. You will work with base station equipment and CPE utilizing proprietary protocols, optimizing end-to-end RF design, propagation modeling, and Macro Cell deployment predictions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • RF Design and Optimization:

  • Perform RF designs for 3G/4G and 5G broadband networks.

  • Optimize RF design, propagation modeling, and Macro Cell deployment predictions.

  • Determine equipment and power configurations on various manufacturers' equipment.

  • Work with eNB/RAN and UE teams to develop RF solutions, including modifications to RF link budgets on a site-level basis to meet operational requirements.

  • Microwave Path Design:

  • Design microwave paths for new networks, including proposing new locations and designing paths with passive repeaters.

  • Client and Management Collaboration:

  • Establish design criteria, link budget, and traffic analysis for network design.

  • Update existing performance parameters for ongoing improvements.

  • Manage projects/processes and write technical reports.

  • Coaching and Leadership:

  • Coach, train, review, and assist lower-level professionals.

  • Establish and maintain operational plans to achieve functional results.

  • Develop innovative solutions to complex RF engineering issues.

  • Recommend changes to procedures/policies as needed.

  • FCC Advocacy:

  • Participate in FCC advocacy projects and remain knowledgeable of FCC rules.

  • Software Proficiency:

  • Work with tools like Forsk Atoll, Windcatcher, Actix, Accuver, MS Outlook/Word/Excel, and BQE Core.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Telecommunication Network Design:

  • Assist in the design and oversee the installation of telecommunications equipment for inside and outside plant projects across rural US.

  • Facilities include electronic switching, routers, point-to-point private networks, IP Ethernet-based networks, FTTH (Fiber to the Home) or FTTB (Fiber to the Business) networks.

  • Cost Estimation and Industry Practices:

  • Estimate costs for implementation and operation.

  • Stay abreast of changes in industry practices and emerging telecommunications technology.

  • Site Inspection and Schematic Development:

  • Inspect sites to determine physical configurations, locations, pathways, etc.

  • Assist in the development and review of schematics.

  • Assess existing facility needs for new or modified telecommunications systems.

  • Vendor Communication:

  • Communicate with telecom vendors to obtain pricing and technical specifications for hardware, software, or services.

    Requirements

Requirements:

  • Education and Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field eligible for Professional Engineer (PE) License.

  • Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or sit for the FE exam within the first year.

  • Must be prepared to continue education through working with professional engineers to obtain a PE license.

  • Proven ability to manage projects from planning to execution and closure.

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to provide guidance and constructive feedback.

  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.

  • Ability to adhere to company standards, policies, and procedures consistently.

  • Proactive approach to achieving departmental and company goals.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is regularly performed in an office environment with adequate lighting, ventilation, and moderate noise levels.

  • This position may require extended periods of reaching, sitting, standing, walking, and navigating stairs.

  • Regular use of hands and fingers in operating computers and peripheral equipment.

  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Requires verbal and auditory communication, as well as the ability to interact with other staff and clients.

  • Must be able to visually inspect work.
