In this role, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in the Ooltewah, Tennessee region.

What you get to do every single day

  • Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection

  • Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations

  • Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis

  • Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

  • Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll Requirements - 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • High attention to detail

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Foundational knowledge in budget forecasting

  • General familiarity with Microsoft Excel

  • Internal Control experience

  • Knowledge of journal entries

  • Deep understanding of Monthly Financial Statements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of QuickBooks

  • Adeptness in financial analysis

  • Month-end Close Activities experience

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)

  • Demonstrated ability in strong analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued
