Robert Half Payroll Supervisor/Manager/Director in Phoenix, Arizona

Description Our reputable client is seeking a Payroll Manager to join the company. The Payroll Manager will help meet standards for the financial department necessary for growth and will work on tax-related tasks, such as W2 forms, preparing reports and updating policies. Are you a dynamic Payroll Manager with excellent communication, proven leadership, and are deadline driven? Then this may be the role for you!


  • Work with Human Resources (HR) and accounting teams

  • Arrange payroll systems and timekeeping

  • Coach and supervise payroll assistants and clerks

  • Collaborate with auditors and manage payroll tax audits

  • Comply with internal policies and relevant laws

  • Supervise system upgrades and the processing of payroll changes (e.g., new hires, terminations, raises)

  • Create reports and ensure accuracy of records

  • Settle issues and respond to all questions related to payroll

  • Help create systems that process payroll account transactions, like salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes and third-party payments Requirements - Knowledge of multiple payroll applications

  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills

  • 5+ years of payroll experience

  • Great written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Compliance knowledge

  • Sound understanding of current payroll procedures and related laws

  • 2+ years of proven leadership experience as a payroll manager or similar role

  • Superb understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes

  • Skilled in handling confidential business matters and information with discretion

  • CPP, CPM, or other related professional certifications is a plus

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or related field
