Responsibilities held by the Staff Accountant include the preparation of monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. This position will require a time commitment, since it produces Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. During the monthly close, you'll also be charged with various aspects of internal reporting. You'll also be reviewing schedules for the reporting processes, communicating with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and playing an active role in compliance.
Your responsibilities in this role
Maintain intricate journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
Carry out fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
Conduct month end close, journal entries, without supervision
Be responsible for analysis of income statements and balance sheets and communicate findings to management
Assist in monthly financial close workbook preparation, including annual closing process
Manage capital lease and monthly payment schedules
Offer descriptions of a large number of financial data and communicate insights in a useful and understandable manner
Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
Assist in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
Take part in various department-wide initiatives Requirements - Previous experience working with Private Grants
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Expertise in Accounts Receivable (AR)
Adeptness in bank reconciliations
Foundational knowledge in Adjusting Journal Entries
Experience with journal entries
Good understanding of grant accounting
Solid understanding of Accounts Payable (AP)
Federal Grant experience highly preferred
Background working with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
Practical knowledge of Pivot Table
Proficiency in general ledger
Earlier work involving Government Grants
General familiarity with VLOOKUP
BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
Fully formed organizational, written and verbal communication skills
2+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"
Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
Proficient in ERP systems
Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases
Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines
High attention to detail
Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases
