Bill Watts at Robert Half is seeking a Union Payroll Administrator to join our construction clients team in Auburn Hills, Michigan. In this role, you will be responsible for managing payroll operations, including processing payrolls, maintaining payroll records, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations. This role demands a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, with a strong emphasis on maintaining confidentiality.

Overview:

As a Union Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for managing payroll processes specifically related to unionized employees within the organization. This role involves ensuring accurate and timely payment of wages, benefits, and union dues in compliance with collective bargaining agreements and labor regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing:

  • Process and reconcile payroll for unionized employees, including hourly wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.

  • Verify timecards, attendance records, and other payroll-related data to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Union Contract Compliance:

  • Interpret and apply provisions of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) related to wages, benefits, working hours, and payroll practices.

  • Ensure payroll practices comply with union contract requirements and labor laws.

  • Union Dues and Contributions:

  • Calculate and deduct union dues, initiation fees, and other union-related contributions from employees' paychecks as per union agreements.

  • Process and remit union dues and contributions to the appropriate union entities in a timely manner.

  • Payroll Reporting and Compliance:

  • Generate payroll reports, including earnings statements, tax filings, and union-related reports.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, as well as union reporting requirements.

  • Communication and Support:

  • Communicate with union representatives, employees, and managers regarding payroll-related inquiries, discrepancies, and changes.

  • Provide guidance and support to employees on payroll matters, including understanding pay stubs, deductions, and benefits.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

  • Several years of experience in payroll administration, preferably in a unionized environment.

  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, labor laws, and payroll tax regulations.

  • Proficiency in payroll software, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality in handling payroll data.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Familiarity with payroll auditing processes, recordkeeping, and reporting

    Requirements

• Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in a Payroll Administrator role or a related field

• Proficient in 'Payroll - Union'

• Strong understanding of payroll systems and payroll tax laws

• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with all levels of the organization

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines

• Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred

• Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus.
