Jamie Benway with Robert Half is reviewing candidates for a renowned services company for an ambitious, determined Controller. In this leadership role, you will manage an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Portland, Oregon area.

Your responsibilities

  • Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

  • Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis

  • Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations

Requirements - BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Notable analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

  • Strong communication and social skills

  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

  • Comprehensive knowledge of month end closings

  • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
