Robert Half Assistant Controller in Raleigh, North Carolina


Locally headquartered building materials supplier is seeking an Assistant Controller for their growing team. The ideal candidate will be a skilled manager with 7+ years of accounting experience. CPA is a plus, and experience in construction or manufacturing is preferred. The Assistant Controller will oversee the companies accounts payable, payroll, treasury, and general ledger functions. Primary duties will include financial consolidations, cash reporting, bank reconciliations and managing the month end close process. Additional duties will include sales and use tax returns, assisting with budgeting, financial analysis, and audits.   • Gather a number of technical accounting analyses, procedures, and policies

  • Provide regular account reconciliation to completion

  • Support the preparation of GAAP financial statements, including budgeting and forecasting

  • Foster accountability and the meeting of deliverables

  • Devise relevant and timely reports on financial data analytics like key financial metrics, the monthly flash report, and actual spend against budgets/outlook

  • Seasoned preparation and coordination of fiscal year-end audits

  • Mark and expand process improvements to streamline reporting and improve team efficiency

  • Guide the accounting team during the closing process to arrange that deadlines are met

  • Uphold implementation and warrant adherence to accounting policies and procedures

  • Advance to ensure a competent, trained staff through development, goal setting, and regular assessment

  • Test and produce Ad Hoc financial reports


  • CPA a plus

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • Wide ranging experience with financial analysis

  • Practical knowledge of Sales Tax Returns

  • Strong familiarity with month end closings

  • Payroll for over 500 employees experience

  • Well-founded grasp of Daily Cash Management

  • Quality experience with budget forecasting

  • Financial statement preparation experience preferred

  • Treasury Function experience

  • Proven knowledge of Treasury Management

  • Comprehensive knowledge of general ledger

  • General familiarity with bank reconciliations

  • Ability to multitask and attention to detail are critical

    • Complete knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills highly desired

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

  • Notable analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • 7+ years of general ledger accounting experience
