Robert Half is seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Controller to join the ranks at a well-respected Education company that helps underserved children to learn. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, handles the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluates accounting and internal control systems, and leads departmental staff. The hybrid, permanent Controller position is situated in the Redwood City, California area.
What you get to do every day
Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation
Produce Financial Statements and calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
Inspect deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly
Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis
Requirements
Skilled in analytical, quantitative and love to work for an organization that helps underserved children
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
Deep understanding of auditing
Non-profit fund accounting experience desired
Knowledge of US GAAP
Consolidated Financial Statements experience preferred
Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued
Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required
Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
